soupper@frontiernet.net The Friends of the Library was
founded in 1977. It began as an outgrowth of the Maud Hart Lovelace Adhoc
Committee. This committee was formed to raise money for the mural in the Maud
Hart Lovelace Wing at the Blue Earth County Library (which is located in
Mankato). The group then became the Friends of the Deep Valley Libraries. This
group supports libraries in Mankato, North Mankato, Lake Crystal, and
Mapleton. The name, The Friends of the Deep Valley
Library, was chosen to honor the famous Mankato-born author of
childrens books Maud Hart Lovelace. The mission of the Friends of the
Deep Valley Library is: -To enhance reading and learning
opportunities in the communities of the Deep Valley Libraries. -To
enhance the reading and learning opportunities provided by the Deep Valley
Libraries. -To support the functions of the Deep Valley libraries so
they may offer enhanced reading and learning opportunities. There are
always opportunities to support The Friends by volunteering! Check
out the following Volunteer opportunities: -Pages Past Bookstore -
only a commitment of 2 hours per month -Annual Book sales - only twice
per year, only 2 hours per time requested -Sorting books - work as
many or as few hours per month as you would like -Assisting with
library acitivities: i.e. serving punch or volunteering to help with games at a
library event -Chairs for the Fundraising Committee and the
Publicity/Advocacy Committee - only a few hours per month -Project
Bookshelf - help parents choose 2 new books for each child, 3 days in
December -Volunteering for the Spring and Fall Book sales: 2 hour
shifts -Volunteering at the Project Bookshelf Program: 3 days in
December -Helping with setting up and tearing down before and after
volunteer events -Other opportunities vary based on the needs of the
libraries |
